Welcome to my first monthly income report at Passive Income Ideas Online. I want to show you that it is possible to make money online, and that too passively. What do I mean by passively? The income you see below has come from a few hours of work per month. What’s more the amazing thing is that my online passive income streams have been making money for me mostly while I am fast asleep (I don’t live in the US but that’s where most of my online income is from)!
In these monthly reports, I want to share with you how I make money from blogging, my passive income strategies, how my blog traffic is developing and of course how my passive online income is growing.
I didn’t start monetizing my primary niche site (Niche Site 1) as soon as I launched it. I had registered the domain with no intention of monetisation and added a few blog posts. I then left it alone for 1-2 years. But when I noticed that one of the main articles was getting some love from Google and attracting decent traffic, I started thinking. Clearly, I had hit upon a niche that was popular. Now I didn’t realise its potential at the time but I wanted to learn how to monetise it. It was then that I came across the Amazon Affiliates program.
Here’s how it works:
- You sign up for an Amazon Affiliates account (you have to sign up separately for the different geographical stores).
- Use the affiliate links to refer visitors to Amazon.
- You get a commission for anything they buy on Amazon within a certain period (24 hours*)
*You also get commission if any item is added to the cart within those first 24 hours and bought within the next 90 days.
Dont have a website to monetise? Sorry but you need one according to the Amazon Affiliate terms. I recommend getting a domain through Namecheap and hosting through Hostgator (note – these are affiliate links and I will get commission if you make a purchase through these links).
Let’s move on to the income report now.
Niche Site 1
Niche Site 1 is focused on physical products and is my first attempt at building an authority niche site, well any niche site really.
Traffic Growth for Niche Site 1 till Feb 2016
Traffic to Niche Site 1 has been ramping up nicely since I started adding more posts to it in November.
|Month||Visits||Page Views||Pages per Visitor||Bounce Rate|
Traffic growth has been impressive and the fact that all of it is from Search Engine Optimisation(SEO) and hardly any other link building activities is even more impressive. The increased traffic was mostly from a series of in-depth how-to posts that answer very specific questions. So the increased bounce rate is not entirely surprising – visitors found what they were looking for an largely didn’t hang around. But with a returning traffic percentage of 20% plus, my belief is that at least some of these visitors bookmark it or remember to pay a visit later on (hopefully when they are researching a potential purchase!)
Traffic Growth for Niche Site 1 in March 2016
Traffic developed extremely strongly with nearly 60% increase in visitor sessions, with page views up 66%. This is a very good result and is due to extensive on-page search engine optimisation and a lot of patience. I have not used any link-building tactics for this site and most of the traffic is organic search. This is proof of the long term rewards of SEO done right.
What do I mean by this? SEO is a long-term traffic strategy, it does not pay quick dividends but rewards patience. Let’s say you have high quality content and good search engine optimisation. When you publish your content, it doesn’t immediately attract a lot of search traffic. It generally takes a few months for Google and other search engines to send a significant amount of traffic to your site. So if you have done everything right, you just need to wait and the traffic will come.
Why bother with SEO when the rewards are so slow in coming? Because with SEO based traffic building, your traffic becomes truly passive. You do your research and write great content, do on-page SEO, post it, and once the traffic arrives, it keeps coming and coming for many months, even years without much additional work. The income generated from these posts are then truly passive income!
Session duration is up – visitors are spending more time and the more time they spend the more engaged they are. Hopefully this means they are clicking the affiliate links more!
Top 5 Countries
Most of Niche Site 1’s traffic comes from the USA. This is great because it is primarily monetised with the Amazon Affiliates USA programme. I have also signed up for the UK, Canada, Germany, and France programmes to capitalise on the traffic from those countries also.
Affiliate Income from Niche Site 1 till Feb 2016
Niche Site 1 has been making money for me from the very month I started monetising it with Amazon Affiliates. Here’s what’s happened from then till Feb 2016:
I managed to cash in on the Christmas shopping spree and this gave a very healthy income for December. Of course January was more in keeping with the average income per month and hence so not a surprise. My traffic had increased significantly in February and this brought in a lot of buying traffic, resulting in a very strong month. I was very pleased to break the $100 mark for the first time. By the way, that’s when I decided I should start recording my passive income journey online in the form of PassiveIncomeIdeas.Online, with the hope that others can also learn from my successes.
Affiliate Income from Niche Site 1 in March 2016
|Amazon Affiliates (US, UK, DE, FR, CA)||+$156.88|
|Hostgator Hosting and Domain Expenses (Monthly)||-$16.46|
March’s Amazon income was lower than February’s but not much lower. I expected it to be higher due to the increased traffic, but this wasn’t the case.
So what’s my Revenue per 1000 impressions(RPM) for March 2016? RPM as defined by Google is:
RPM = (Estimated earnings / Number of page views) * 1000
I had 5020 page views. So the RPM was $27.97.
Plans for April 2016
- Write one high quality long article for Niche Site 1.
- Get PassiveIncomeIdeas.Online up and running.
