July 2016 Traffic & Income Report

Sometimes things just get ahead of you. This income report is quite late and I have only myself to blame for it! I have been prioritising my Niche Sites above this blog (rightly I think). However late it is, my intention is to still keep writing income reports here.

I believe they are still useful for you, my readers, so that you can see what works and what doesn’t. I also think its great to keep myself accountable. However writing these up takes a fair amount of time. So I am going to strip these down to the bare minimum, freeing up time to generate more income.

Here’s the summary for July 2016:

  • Traffic (page views) are up 17%, revenue is down 9%, and profits down 10% at $723.65
  • Some new content added, extra traffic is from a mix of SEO and Reddit advertising.
  • Niche Site 3 launched, in addition to Niche Site 2 launched in June.

Goal Achievement Check

The goals for July 2016 were:

  • Write one long high-quality post for Niche Site 1 – DONE
  • Write one long high-quality post for PassiveIncomeIdeas.Online – DONE
  • Break through $1000 revenue per month – FAILED
  • Profit growth over-proportional to traffic growth – FAILED

I wrote a detailed post on Niche Site 1 after a gap of 2 months. I also wrote a detailed guide to setting up your own money-making blog. As you can see from my earnings, the best thing I have done in my online marketing ventures is to start with the right tools. Check out the tools I use to make money online.

Total & Net Income from all Sites

All the income in July came from Niche Site 1.

I am not happy about the fact that revenue and profit are down even though traffic went up. But I guess this is the nature of the game.

Grind Report

23 hours in total, but the bulk of it has been spent on building up 2 websites from scratch. I expect this to start making returns in 6-12 months time.

My revenue was 793.91. I had 11,787 page views in May. So the RPM for June was $67.35

Net Profit was 723.65. So Profit per 1000 impressions (PPM) in June 2016 was $61.39

Niche Site 1 – Grind report

I spent around 5 hours in June creating a new article, managing the Reddit ads and doing some WordPress maintenance.

Niche Site 2

Niche Site 2 is now up and running. I have started monetising it with Amazon Associates but have not made a single cent yet. Because of the nature of the site, I don’t expect organic traffic to happen any time soon. It just doesn’t focus on content, more on virality and social shareability.

I must have worked around 10 hours on Niche Site 2.

Niche Site 3

Niche Site 3 is finally up and running, it has two articles on it and is already getting some organic search traffic. I need to ramp up the content production – I may be on the cusp of having to outsource content creation.

I spent around 8 hours on bringing this site up to this level.

Passive Income Ideas Online

I have been neglecting this blog really due to just generally being busy with life. My primary focus is on keeping the my sole money-maker Niche Site 1 ticking over. The secondary focus is on creating additional niche sites and that’s what I have been focusing on.

Goals for August 2016

My goals for August are:

  • Write one long high-quality article each for Niche Site 1, 2 and 3.
  • Reduce bounce rate and increase session duration on Niche Site 1.
  • Break through $1000 revenue per month.
  • Profit growth over-proportional to traffic growth.

After posting on your June report, I checked the source of my traffic and it’s mostly from Reddit. If I ever have something worth advertising, I’ll definitely look into it. Are you planning to produce a “guide to reddit advertising” post?
I love the way that you expect Niche Site 2 to be profitable in 6-12 months time! I have hideously silly expectations, so it’s good to see you promoting something with long(ish) timescales.
$700+ sounds very nice from where I’m sitting. Good luck with August’s goals (although you have little time left to achieve them!)

      Hi again 🙂

I am very happy to see at least one person is reading my income reports! Thanks for taking the time to comment – it means a lot to me!!!

Even though I just posted the last two income reports, I had set the goals early on in the month. So I have actually been working on them all August. My game plan at the moment is this – keep Niche Site 1 coasting on bare minimum effort and spend all my energy on building up Niche Site 2 and 3.

For Niche Site 1 and 2, I am focusing on increasing traffic by advertising on Reddit. A new experiment I started is Facebook advertising – I have had mixed results but its way more expensive than Reddit for driving traffic. I am doing some A/B testing on Reddit and as soon as the ads have run fully, I intend to write a tutorial post on Reddit ads.

I say 6-12 months for Niche site 2 based on my experience with Niche Site 1. Well, NC1 was highly SEO optimised and still took 12 months to break into the first page of Google and then 6 months to break even after monetisation started. So I think NC2, being very much a site that depends on social shares, will take longer to make any real money.

But this business is one that rewards the patient – as my income bar graphs show. I do not want to mislead eager beginners into thinking white hat SEO can yield results in the short term. It may for SEO experts, but I don’t know how yet.

Hey PiiGirl… Nice monthly income report! 😉 You seem just like me, several projects going on at once. Very demanding, but worth the effort in the long term. I didn’t think of breaking down earnings by page views, will have to take a look at mine. Thanks for the tip!

I found myself not just reading this report, but several other posts. Nice work.

Most success with your site! 🙂

      Hi Todd,

Thanks and as I wrote on your blog, starting multiple projects at the same time is my Achilles heel! I need to really focus on the right things.
